Pre-Academy
As the daughter of a Vulcan starship captain and a Denobulan civilian scientist, Tsura Ghalt has been interacting with Starfleet since the day she was born. While stationed on the USS Visionary, a medium cruiser on an extended mission into the Gamma Quadrant, her parents were stranded on an uncharted planet for some time. Through what could be considered legendarily bad timing, her father experienced Pon Farr during this time while her mother was going through the Denobulan mating season. When search and rescue finally found the pair there was an additional, unexpected member of the crew: an infant Tsura.
As a child, Tsura spent most of her time on ships with one parent or other, occasionally being left for short periods with family while her parents went into especially dangerous territory. When asked to recall this time, she notes that Denobulan children are far more accepting than Vulcan children. She clarifies further and says that Vulcan children were downright cruel at time, driving her to consider herself far more Denobulan.
While her parents never developed more than close friendship even after her birth, both of them understood that she was their daughter and did the best they could to teach her what they could of the universe. From her father she learned the ways of the Vulcan mind, and although she made a conscious decision not to completely suppress her emotions, she inherited the Vulcan fire and now goes through great lengths to control how much she does let out. Her mother taught her the Denobulan lifestyle, and when it was time for her to choose where she would live, she went back to Denobula with her mother until she applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy.
Academy
Tsura was not the best student in the Academy by far. While she was still considered above average, her Denobulan social drive continually sent her out to make new friends and experience all the cultures of the Federation in and around San Francisco, causing her marks to suffer in technical and scientific studies. When she was informed by one of her professors that she was wasting her potential, she had no choice but to step back and look at what she was doing.
After that she improved her education. While she still fell short of achieving honors she was in the upper portion of her class when she graduated. Among her final gradings, she was considered to be an expert marksman using plasma weaponry She also had special training in urban warfare.
Starfleet Career
Being the daughter of a well respected Starfleet captain, her father called in a favor within the Starfleet's assignment group and had his daughter stationed on Deep Space 9, where she was close enough to the action to be able to assist if needed but still not on the front lines.
While she was first assigned as a junior security officer on the station, she recently moved to a position under Commander Peter Raeder as his yeoman.
Hybrid Physiology
- Tsura has the Denobulan ability and instinct to inflate her face when faced with danger. However, her facial skin does not have the elasticity of a full Denobulan's so doing so will cause her pain. Because of this she takes special care not to inflate if she can at all avoid it.
- Despite this, she is able to smile as widely as any Denobulan.
- Tsura has a Denobulan immune system and cellular markers, but her blood is copper based. This combination makes it difficult for most diseases to gain a foothold in her body, making her especially resistant to them.
- It is thought that Tsura will not experience Pon Farr since she does not suppress her emotions and instincts the way Vulcans normally do. It is unknown if this will be the case, however, as she has not reached an age yet to experience it.
- While Tsura does not have the Denobulan physical adaptions to allow her to climb sheer cliffs with ease, she has retained the instinctual knowledge of how to. Because of this, she is an exceptional climber.
- Tsura's eyes retain the Denobulan ability to change color based on emotions.
Other Information
- Tsura is fond of cold Vulcan Spiced Tea.
- Tsura is so named after her father's mother, T'sura. Her mother did not wish to have a hard T in her name, so the T is silent.
- During her time on Earth, she has become accustomed to most types of food the Federation has to offer; a notable exception being Bolian food, long known to be as volatile as Bolian physiological chemistry.
- She is known to frequent Quark's while off duty, where she attempts to keep the peace. This is not always welcome, and can cause as much trouble as she resolves.
- Tsura does not suppress her emotions. She does, however, go to great lengths to control the emotions she allows herself to display. In particular she prevents herself from displaying anger, citing that she has "been known to hurt people" that have made her angry.
