T'ruk Grax is currently the rank of Rear Admiral in the Engineering department of the [12th Fleet] and in command of the USS Thundercats. Originally serving in the engineering department since the rank of Lieutenant, he had been forced to take command when his superior officers died during a highly classified mission. The Thundercats is a Nova Class starship with a modified crew structure wherein the majority of the crew is artificial life forms and a larger engineering department in order to serve the special needs of the ship.
- His specialties are in communications engineering and linguistics. He frequently is assigned to away missions to assist with communications and alien contact situations.
Being half Vulcan and half Betazoid resulted in conflicting emotions/education early in childhood. As a cadet in starfleet he decided to abandon any attempt at suppressing his emotions as, in his logic, the majority of his emotional states were without anger and violence (something he attributes to his Betazoid mother) and therefore more than likely to be an asset than an impediment.
He is quite skilled at other Vulcan techniques though; the neck pinch was one of his most famous 'party tricks' in his pre-academy days. He decided it was something best saved for real emergencies when, during his first year at the academy, he incapacitated a classmate who ended up being the professor of Earth history's nephew! (Imagine having to take THAT class twice!)
Though he has had little formal training on mind melds, T'ruk is currently researching methods of using his unique Betazoid/Vulcan physiology to perform a non-contact mind meld. Most of his 'research' is his own supposition and ancient Vulcan myth...for some reason he has had little luck convincing his friends to allow him to attempt such a meld.
StarFleet Career
In 2399, a year after he graduated from Starfleet Academy, he married Miral Paris (practically the only person to escape from Starfleet without falling prey to one of T'ruk's practical jokes). They had hoped to one day serve on the same ship though they understand the likelihood of that was slim. Two months after their wedding on Risa T’ruk received a long term assignment to the USS Thundercats.
- In 2408, after more than 8 years had passed, contact with the USS Thundercats was re-established. It had disappeared during a highly classified mission and returned with a heavily reduced crew leaving T'ruk in command.
The Seventh Fleet: 2408
Upon returning T'ruk remained in command, receiving a promotion to the rank of Captain and being assigned to serve with the Seventh Fleet. It is suspected that the highly classified nature of it's previous mission gave Star Fleet the justification to leave the ship temporarily in the command of T'ruk. The ship repairs were slow coming as the holographic crew members are the only officers allowed on most of decks 4-6. Veiled in secrecy, the captain turned down an offer for additional officers to serve on the ship. He claims that his crew is fully capable as is and adding additional members at this time would cause a decrease in efficiency. T’ruk spent the rest of 2408 at Starbase 7171, base of operations for the Seventh Fleet. His wife visits when she can but is heavily involved in biome stabilization research on Mars; something she buried herself in when she thought she had lost T’ruk in 2399.
The 12th Fleet 2409-Current
Once the repairs to his ship were complete Star Fleet gave T’ruk new orders: to join the 12th Fleet. The reassignment came with an official promotion and change of classification of the ship’s continuing mission. With the damaged logs of the classified mission declared a ‘complete loss’ and a re-evaluation of T’ruk’s service, Star Fleet decided that the position of Rear Admiral was well deserved.
- As part of his new assignment, Rear Admiral Grax was commissioned to design and orchestrate the building of the 12th fleet’s new starbase Valhalla.
