The Star Trek Online Geekipedia is a community driven, community created online information resource for all things of interest to players of Star Trek Online. Like The Orion Syndicate we welcome you no matter if you are Human or Klingon, so long as you have an interest or something to offer.
What This Is
Devoted primarily to the MMORPG game Star Trek Online this site is meant to allow players of this game a resource for research, open-ended creativity, and community interaction.
Many may feel uncomfortable with the basic philosophy behind a wiki such as this, but it does work. Community collaberation in this form has long become a proven model for the sharing of knowledge and experience.
What This Is Not
The Star Trek Online Geekipedia is not an encyclopedia of Star Trek Canon. Memory Alpha does that exceptionally well already and we have no desire to compete with such an historic and well-developed wiki. In fact, they were used extensively for research during the production not only of Star Trek Online, but also for the movie Star Trek.
Damnit Jim, Where's My LCARS Interface?
We have purposely avoided providing a rich and graphically-intensive interface, other than the basic colors and the main logo, in order to allow the content itself to take precedence over the container it's in. This also allows our contributors a chance to become creative using the individual space on the page alloted to each article, without being forced into a particular style or bottle-necked by outside graphic elements.
We could've done a fancy and mighty impressive graphical interface, maybe some really cool but extrememly distracting background images, but that would severely limit the geekipedia's versatility, don't you think?
