Biography
On Stardate 43995.93 (Fri, 30 Dec 2366 12:20:48 GMT) already en route to Earth, the USS Princeton was requisitioned by Admiral J.P. Hanson—evoking Section 433, Paragraph 12 of Federation Regulations Book 19—to rendez vous with the Federation fleet at Wolf 359 in preparation for defense against invading Borg forces. Aboard the Princeton at this time, Emelia Emerson—pregnant wife of then senior officer Lieutenant Commander J’irai—unexpectedly went into labor on Stardate 44000.76 (Sun, 01 Jan 2367 06:39:27 GMT). Their son, Rhikter, was born on 44002.19 (19:11:03 GMT). The Federation defense fleet engaged an invading Borg Cube on Stardate 44002.3 (20:08:52 GMT) and was quickly defeated. Emelia and Rhikter, along with a small number of other crew and personnel, were able to escape via lifepods. Lt. Cmdr. J’irai was killed in action, presumably when a massive hull rupture compromised decks 1-5. The Princeton was ultimately destroyed.
Rhikter was raised in Normandy, France from Stardate 44069.89 (Thu, 26 Jan 2367) up until 53131.09 (Tue, 17 Feb 2376) when Emilia—under pressure from J’irai’s family—brought the boy to be raised on Vulcan. Rhikter and his mother remained on the planet until Stardate 55647.77 (Fri, 25 Aug 2378) when Emilia was again forced to relocate as Rhikter had become incredibly unreceptive to Vulcan culture and was at times out-right violent. They returned to Normandy and on Stardate 56467.68 (Wed, 20 Jun 2379) Emilia re-married to Gerard D. Louis, a scholar by trade.
There were many difficulties for Rhikter over the next few months, especially given the circumstances. Rhikter was hardly, open to Gerard’s presence, and reflected it so. However, tensions calmed a bit over the next several years. Emilia introduced Rhikter to the piano some time in 2380, which he quickly took to. In 2381 Rhikter joined his school’s rugby team and for the first time truly began to develop a sense of community. Still, while Rhikter’s temperate had been sedated, it had not been extinguished. A regular series of fights, and reprimands for behavior led up to a rugby match on Stardate 62335.89 (Fri, 03 May 2385) where Rhikter having been fouled by an opposing player took it personally and viciously attacked the boy. Spectators, including Emilia, attempted to intervene. Emilia tried to pull Rhikter off the boy but in his rage, and underestimating his Vulcan strength, Rhikter threw her away, dislocating her right shoulder. Upon realizing what he had done, Rhikter went into shock and was catatonic for several hours. Later that night, alone in is room, he began to bawl and did so until morning.
It was a humbling experience. Rhikter could no longer bear to look at himself. He was a monster and he knew it. He could not go on living this way. He needed to change. On Stardate 62360.53 (Sun, 12 May 2385) instead of joining his peers at their graduation ceremony, Rhikter departed for Vulcan to participate in the Ritual of Kolinahr. He remained there for 12yrs attempting to complete the ritual and achieve pure logic, effectively wiping away his emotional impulses and the burdens that came with them.
The length of time typically taken by a Vulcan to complete the Kolinahr is 2-6yrs. By Stardate 68360.53(Sun, 12 May 239) Rhikter had not managed to achieve half the progress of the typical Vulcan. On Stardate 71968.27 (Tue, 20 Dec 2394) it was discovered by his composers that Rhikter had constructed a custom Piano in his quarters, where he had lived in solitude until then. It was decided that the instrument had contributed to Rhikter’s lack of progress and it was promptly removed; presumed destroyed. Rhikter was not allowed private quarters afterward and without his “muse” grew more volatile until Stardate 74753.8 (Fri, 03 Oct 2397) when he abandoned his studies and returned to Earth. He returned to Normandy, staying with Emilia and Gerard, until Stardate 75003.8 (Fri, 02 Jan 2398) when an astute of duty Starfleet medical officer noticed an unconscious Rhikter at a Normandy music club suffering from an intentional overdose of Hyvroxilated quint-ethyl metacetamin. After recovering, Rhikter was deemed by his attending physician to be a danger to himself, and thus admitted to a rehabilitation clinic on Risa.
Rhikter was involved regularly in sessions of counseling and therapy. He was once posed the question, “What was your worst experience on Vulcan,” he replied, “The day they took my piano.” From that point onward piano was integrated into Rhikter’s treatment, and it was discovered that unlike most humanoids with Vulcan heritage, the solution was not to suppress the emotional nature of the race but to let it out. In this way, Rhikter was much more Human than he was Vulcan. His rate of improvement was astounding, and on Stardate 75979.1 (Thu, 24 Dec 2398) was granted release with mandatory follow-up therapy. His arrival unexpected, Rhikter surprised Emilia Emerson Louis at her Normandy home on Stardate 75983.54 (Fri, 25 Dec 2398 23:48:37 GMT). . . . . .
