Personality
Lak’tek exudes an aura of both calm and supreme confidence in his abilities which influence everyone he deals with. When faced with an impossible situation his demeanour changes into that of a gruff, un-moveable object. He failed has failed the Kobiyashi Maru test every year since entering Federation service, but prides himself in attempting it every year; he believes that nothing is impossible, and given enough devotion one can overcome any adversity.
Biography
The Shir’eii clan (Lak’teks family name) were originally part of a mining magnate spanning over 300 standard years of economic stability on Nayormi'ka; typically well to do, the clan experienced substantial benefits through dealing with defense contractors and some members held particular sway over the Nayormi’ka ruling caste, influencing decisions of state and defence indirectly.
Lak’tek Nathaniel (previously known as Lak’tek Shir’eii) was set to inherit control of the clan after his coming of age trials. Fate dealt Lak’tek an interesting hand on stardate 2402.269 when members of a Federation delegation landed near the entrance of one of the Shir’eii clans’ mining complexes; history would have it that Lak’tek would be the first to greet the visitors from the stars, thus he was lauded throughout the Federation as the point of first contact.
Subsequently, Lak’tek was instrumental in bringing the Federation delegates and the Nayormi’ka ruling caste together for negotiations. The planet of Nayormi'ka was indoctrinated into the United Federation of Planets on stardate 2402.861, just over seven standard earth months after being discovered, which still stands as a record. The pace in which this happened was caused by the influence Shir’eii clan had placed onto the ruling caste. By 2404.2 the Federation had built a ground based interstellar trade centre on the outskirts of the capital city of Ne’vok, on the continent of Ar’r in the planets northern hemisphere.
Back in stardate 2402.86 a young Federation Science Officer named Nathaniel Forsyth gave his life when the cruiser NCC-99000, the USS_Ether_Flame was destroyed on a day which culminated in The discovery of the Nayormi’ka, this has since been viewed by the Nayormi’ka as fate, a detail that pro-alien Federation members use to their advantage. It is customary in Nayormi prophecies for warriors who were honoured by another’s sacrifices to take their name instead of their own clan’s name. Thus, on stardate 2404.31 Lak’tek Shir’eii officially became known as Lak’tek Nathaniel; he was also elected (some say forced) into becoming the Ambassador of the Nayormi’ka for the United Federation of Planets. His first Federation endorsed decree was renaming the trade centre simply to Forsyth, he also signed a charter authorising the centre be upgraded to an economic and military base for operations in the Nayormi system. Starfleet also endorsed the plan and promised future logistical and military presence since the planet was now affiliated with the Federation.
Throughout the rest of 2404 Lak’tek was posted on Earth for further ambassadorial duties and was instrumental in setting up the free trade agreement between Earth/Vulcan and Nayormi'ka in 2406. Only days after bridging his landmark agreement, the piece de resistance of his career some say, on stardate 2406.122 he officially stepped down from his position as Ambassador and entered service with Starfleet, becoming a cadet and working towards specialising in starship engineering.
While he was studying, plans to rebuild the USS_Ether_Flame with a new designation; NCC-99000-A, after it was destroyed on the day of The discovery of the Nayormi’ka; the Miranda class ship was to be gifted to Lak’tek upon graduation but it was destroyed during shakedown manoeuvres, some suspect sabotage. Lak’tek graduated Starfleet Academy on 2409.1 with the rank of Ensign. On 2409.30 he entered active service with a ship he oversaw the modification of; a Miranda class Frigate designated NX-99000-A, and once again named the USS. USS_Ether_Flame. Now that he has entered active service with the Federation he is expected to embark on Diplomatic missions when necessary, given his previous experience, it is a job that he is over qualified for.
Hobbies/Pastimes
Lak’tek enjoys many physical activities in his limited downtime; these include Martial Arts of various styles, an ancient earth game called Rugby and safely keeping his firearms skills honed with laser tag. All of these activities (and more) are made easier with the advantages of agility gained from Nayormi’ka physiology.
Political Ideology
As alluded to, Lak’tek started to be interested in politics at an early age; the Shir’eii clan commanded a certain amount of control over the ruling caste of their home world for centuries. Lak’tek believes in a hybrid form of government that could be best described as a fusion of Communism and Democracy. The Nayormi’ka elect planetary leaders (whose families become the ruling caste for their term) and are encouraged to work for each other; this culminates in a high standard of living for all Nayormi’ka with the absence of class difficulties. Lak’tek is a devout supporter of this form of government and believes that without it, his planet would once again fall into the depravity of the wars of the past.
Service Records
This section is to record what official activities the character has been upto over the last few years, which vessels and postings they've been assigned to and what promotions and decorations they've been awarded.
Special Notes
For those looking to roleplay with their characters this section is to define some special abilities and traits which can be referenced in game.
Occupation
- Civil Engineer: Lak’tek was trained from a young age by his clan in their mines, thus he spent much of his early life underground. His eyesight is above normal given the time spent under ground though he is sensitive to ultra bright light. He is good at repairing most damaged items and has an aptitude for the technical. His higher learnings were focused not only around civil engineering (which was his main focus), but also around molecular and electronic engineering. This has translated well to his chosen field of expertise within Starfleet.
Side Trait
- Diplomat: Lak’tek has been exposed to diplomatic exchanges and political intrigue since he was a boy. He used to debate with his clan and has developed ‘the gift of the gab’ giving him an almost unnatural ability to associate with anyone.
Race/Cultural Background
- Background: The Nayormi’ka are a race of reptilian humanoids; their history dates back approximately 20,000 standard earth years from the first examples of sentient thought (cave drawings and the like). The race appears to have originally been quadrupeds much like earth borne lizards and their DNA sequencing supports that train of thought. Some time around 18,500 years ago the first evidence of evolving to become bipeds was discovered. War like in nature, the cold blooded “Old Ones” suffered greatly at each others hands through what resembles tribal warfare.
The leap to technological advances appears to have become apparent around 17,000 years ago although their technology hadn’t evolved past what could be described as pre-21st century Earth levels until they were discovered by the Federation in 2402. The advances then were explosive to say the least; scientists and engineers exposed to the latest and greatest Federation technologies began to assimilate the technology into their own. Three major shipyards have now sprung up in orbit and have begun to create amazing space craft using their planet’s vast caches of natural resources.
The planet’s clan system, harking back to the days of the Old Ones, still thrives today. Family groups are tied together by relative bonds and these form the backbone of entire communities; deeply spiritual and attuned to nature, they have turned aside their warlike natures since they almost destroyed their planet around 1,000 years ago.
Being physiologically reptilian, the Nayormi’ka are inherently cold blooded, this enables the average citizen to be able to withstand environmental extremes. They are also known to painfully grow back lost limbs, though this can take a very long time. Every Nayormi’ka also possesses typical slit eyes and scales around their necks and other joints; they are very nimble and manage to climb many surfaces very easily. Facial ridges are also common among many and are a sign of great virility among the various clans.
The Nayormi’ka are known for having quite a temper at times; this goes back to the old times and is something that the ruling castes are always trying to suppress among the populace. As yet it still hasn’t been eradicated, though to do so would be to forego histories lessons.
Flaw 1
- Stubborn: Though calm in most situations, when pushed for decisions that he doesn’t feel need to be made ‘at that moment’ Lak’tek will often times make up his mind and will not budge, sometimes to the detriment of his crew and acquaintances.
Flaw 2
- Hostile: The old saying goes, “Do not strike a Nayormi’ka unless you are prepared for war”, it isn’t lost on Lak’tek. It isn’t easy to rile a modern Nayormi’ka, but given enough external stimulus Lak’tek has been known to shoot first and ask questions later.
Inventory
Lak’tek has taken great interest in the U.S.S. Enterprise-D and consequently in Captain Jean Luc Picard’s crew; he has adopted that era of uniform for himself and his crew. When embarking o away missions he will never be apart from his Bolt Rifle which he calls “Peace”.
OOC and other information
Seeing as I don’t know how to calculate stardates I am simply taking the year and dividing it into 1000 equal parts.
