Pre-Starfleet

Jayle was born mid 2383, the child of two Trill geologists. While her childhood was unremarkable as far as Joined Trill go, she was profiled for compatibility with a symbiont before she was a teenager and made it the focus of her early life to become the best person she could to be considered in the symbiosis program.

She also remembers a childhood garden fondly, which she describes as having "flowers from all over the galaxy" and "being as large as the Dabo platform in Quark's." Whether either of these are true or simply the memories of a child's flights of fancy is unknown. She cites the interactions between the flowers and native animals as being the start of her love of Biology.

Jayle has three separate doctorates, all received before she joined Starfleet Academy: Trill biology, Xenobiology, Medical. She also has a Master's degree in Geophysics. She says that her Thesis for both of her biology doctorates was "Hybridization of Trill and Alien Flora and their potential for Medicinal Value."

Starfleet

Jayle applied to Starfleet Academy as soon as she was able to and was accepted, achieving high marks in almost all programs over the course of her Academy training. Her weapons and physical training were the exception, being considered barely passing until her final year, when she managed to pull her skill up just enough to be considered as graduating 'cum laude'.

Upon graduation from Starfleet Academy in 2406, the Ensign Jayle was assigned as a junior science officer aboard the USS Einherjar, a Norway class Cruiser. On her first away mission, she was sent to a largely uncharted planet with a group of marines to recover a stranded runabout, chosen for her knowledge in Xenobiology. When the group was attacked by a pack of large omnivorous predators on the planet that had a resistance to conventional energy weapons, Jayle was able to save the majority of the team through a natural repellent that a flower had evolved as a means of protecting itself from the predator.

One of the marines was the Joined Trill Daroc Marir, who later had requested that he be treated as the field docent for the young scientist, giving her a positive recommendation for her personal strength and ability to keep calm under extreme duress. When Daroc died in early 2407 from a severe reaction to an insect bite, Jayle was chosen as the next host for the symbiont. With the knowledge provided by Marir, Jayle quickly rose through the ranks of the Einherjar, becoming the XO of the ship by late 2408.

In 2409 the Einherjar was destroyed in a battle with an unknown Klingon warship. Jayle was reassigned with the new rank of Commander as the CO of the USS Wednesday, an Intrepid class science ship attached to Deep Space 9.

In Mid March of 2409, Jayle was promoted to Captain, reassigned to the Sol Class USS Burnham, and assigned to the Borg front.

April, 2409 was a time of several changes to Jayle's life: She was bonded to Sivin Telara, Captain of the USS Eosphoros, and subsequently married her. In the same time frame, she was witness to Sartaj, a Betazoid boy, being abandoned by his mother; she and Sivin adopted him and are now raising him as their own. In addition, she applied for and was given permission to change the name of the Burnham to Serendipity.

Past Hosts

  • Shina
    • Female host, Marir's first. She was an astrophysicist and mother of two girls, Mona and Adonna. She passed her field docent tests from her intelligence and the assistance she gave in getting the Trill species among the stars.
    • Host from the age of 21 (2156) to her death at 77 (2212).
  • Osa
    • Male host, Marir's second. He was a historian that specialized in recording alien mythologies, specifically Earth's. He spent the majority of his life on the planet. He was passed his field docent tests for his creativity, willingness to work with alien cultures, and his strength of character.
    • Host from the age of 25 (2212) to his death at 82 (2269).
  • Daroc
    • Male host, Marir's third. He was a member of the Federation's MACO branch. The reasons why he was accepted for joining are considered classified.
    • Host from the age of 22 (2394) to his death at 35 (2407)

Other Information

  • Jayle is extremely protective of symbiosis and joining, as are most Trill.
  • She is fluent in Trill and English.
  • It was rumored for a time that she had been involved in the death of Daroc Marir. There was no initial evidence that she murdered him, so there was no investigation. This rumor died out when Jayle underwent zhian'tara and Daroc confirmed she had not been involved.
  • Thanks to the Marir symbiont, Jayle is an expert in the Klingon martial art Mok'bara and is considered to be proficient in the human art of Jeet Kune Do.
  • The Marir symbiont is just over 250 years old.
  • Jayle keeps a series of fish tanks in her ready room with fish from all over Federation space, all named and chosen after the previous hosts. Previously she kept one Terran Goldfish named Bubbles, but its fish tank is no longer in her ready room.
  • She is fond of chocolate.
  • Jayle hates tribbles. When asked why, she says that they ate her fudge.
