Personality

Gabriel is a highly intelligent man, he excels at intuitively understanding the fundamental elements of an alien concept within a very short period of exposure to it. Gabriel is a strategic thinker, and always attempts to consider every possible way a scenario could play out in order to formulate multiple contingency plans. He is a very logical and rational thinker, and is not always the most compassionate example that humanity could offer. However, despite this fact, Gabriel holds the rights of the individual in the highest regard. Although in a situation that would call for the sacrifice of the individual to benefit the whole, Gabriel would choose to sacrifice without apology. The Myers-Briggs personality test identifies him strongly with the designation INTJ.

Gabriel Pyriel is a handsome young man with long black hair that extends to the middle of his neck, he is just under six feet tall, and around 155 lbs with a slim, but athletic build.

Biography

The Early Years

Born in Marseilles, France in 2385 Gabriel is the son of a prominent Federation Ambassador and French Royal, Count Sebastian Pyriel and Lenette La'Croix Pyriel. Growing up Gabriel was exposed to a very mature atmosphere that often involved serious diplomatic scenarios, as a result Gabriel was strongly encouraged by his parents to remain silent and listen carefully. Eventually when Gabriel was older, around eight years old, his father began to treat him more like an apprentice than a son. Sebastian would tutor him in the clandestine art of diplomacy with devious diplomats from governments both within and outside of the Federation. Gabriel became quite the student of human nature, and began to look at people in an objective, and scientific fashion. While Gabriel maintains his natural empathy, the skills his father has taught him has allowed him to become quite dispassionate when necessary. His family being what it was, Gabriel grew up in an environment of schemes, secrets, and grudges.

Once Gabriel reached the age of twelve he began home schooling himself in a multitude of subjects including Federation law, which he eventually minored in during his time at Starfleet Academy. In 2389 there was something of a scandal involving his father Sebastian and his assignment to the Romulan Star Empire, at the time it was heavily rumored that the Ambassador had supplied highly guarded intelligence to the Romulans. This scandal mysteriously faded into the background over the months following the incident, although some rumors began circulating amongst some of the higher level diplomats and Admirals that Ambassador Pyriel may be working with Section 31. Once Gabriel had reached the age of fifteen he knew that he wanted to apply to Starfleet Acadmeny, in the young man's opinion there was too much wrong with the Universe and he aimed to fix at least some of it. Gabriel spend the next three years preparing himself for Starfleet Academy, and finally at the age of eighteen he applied. Gabriel had thought that his father would object, but to his surprise his father was remarkably silent on the matter, and Gabriel had never known his father to withhold his opinions regarding family matters. On the other hand his father was very guarded about his opinions when it came to business, Sebastian had raised Gabriel to be very observant of human behavior and this small deviation in behavior troubled Gabriel to no end. Gabriel had the distinct impression that the reason his father had declined to object is because he had plans for his son, and this newest development of Gabriel's application to Starfleet must not have conflicted with those plans.

Starfleet Academy

Upon Gabriel's acceptance at Starfleet Academy, Gabriel moved to San Fransisco in order to immerse himself in the atmosphere of academic study, and to begin to separate and distinguish himself from his family (in particular his father). While he knew his father had plans for his future, Gabriel was not so sure those plans were something he wanted to participate in.

  • First Year: Gabriel began his first year with mostly essential courses, and no specific major curriculum, although he indicated an interest in Federation Law.
  • Second Year: During Gabriel's second year at the academy he began study in the Command division, and began study of Federation Law.
  • Third Year: During Gabriel's third year he continued his studies in Command and in Federation Law, bu also began to question some of the Federation's key principles and a few of the more minor regulatory laws. Specifically Gabriel began to write articles and analyzes criticizing the application of the Prime Directive in certain scenarios, and he questioned the validity of certain conservative regulatory laws that made some substances such as Romulan Ale, illegal. This arguably deviant behavior earned him a few opponents at the academy who were more conservative in nature, however, Gabriel's ability to keep his arguments on an academic and impersonal level served him well and even swayed some to his line of thinking.
  • Forth Year: During Gabriel's forth year at the academy Gabriel's actions were noted by some key Admirals in the academy (some for better and some for worse), despite the controversial nature of some of Gabriel's beliefs it was agreed that he would make a fine officer, in fact it was pointed out by one of his supporters that his questioning nature is what gave him the potential to be such a fine officer. Without that approval it is doubtful Gabriel would have graduated Starfleet Academy, however, Gabriel did indeed graduate and one Admiral suggested that while Gabriel would make a fine explorer, his talent for debate would serve a Justice division extremely well.

First Assignment/Current

Gabriel's first assignment is currently as an Ensign on board the USS Franklin (NCC-241776, Galaxy Class), he has been assigned to the 12th Fleet operating near the Federation/Klingon border out of the Starbase Valhalla. Ensign Pyriel has been assigned to Beta Squad of the J.A.G. (Judge Advocate General) Division within the 12th Fleet.

Hobbies/Pastimes

Gabriel enjoys debate, and interesting conversation. He also enjoys rock climbing, but only on the holodeck (in real life he is slightly afraid of heights and uses the holodeck to help combat and confront that fear.) He also enjoys tactical simulations to keep his mind and reflexes sharp. Gabriel listens to many forms of music, and only dislikes a few of the musical forms (although when he does dislike music, he generally hates it). Although he is very interested in politics he chooses not to pursue any active political ventures aside from voting (But he will engage in casual political debate with peers at length).

Political Ideology

Gabriel has a very practical ideology, whenever possible he takes a very liberal stance on most social issues, however, when it comes to regulatory and fiscal matters he tends to be more cautious and conservative where necessary. Gabriel understands that nothing is perfect and that sometimes sacrifices must be made in order to preserve the whole, however, he also will attempt to rectify as many problems as he can as long as it does not endanger the whole. Gabriel tries to distance himself from an issue and look at the overall picture, then make decisions based on those observations.
