David Klein
Classification: Humanoid
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Affiliation: United Federation of Planets
Personality
Naturally friendly to everyone he meets, David has a penchant for being trustworthy and compassionate, even among strangers. As friendly and open as David is, he tends to be around small, personal groups rather than large ones, although he seems to have no problem giving speeches or lectures to the latter. With a natural interest in science, David becomes highly passionate in his work that allows him to study the unknown mysteries of the galaxy.
Biography
David Klein was born on September 28, 2381 to Cheif Eloy and Reina Klein in Phoenix, Arizona on Earth. Eloy took David out camping in the northern forest areas of Arizona and it was there that David first looked up to the stars and became facinated with them. When David asked his father what star the "big bright one" is, Eloy said it was Venus and corrected him in saying that it is actually a planet, not a star. This surprised David so much that he spend the rest of his youth studying the cosmos from a telescope in his backyard given to him on his eighth birthday. The remainder of his young academic career was spent studying the sciences.
David's father was also in serving as an enlisted hospital corpsman on the USS Blueridge and being promoted to Cheif PO. When David decided to join Starfleet Academy, Eloy was so proud that he gave David his old service medal as a good luck charm, to which David still keeps today.
David met his wife, Gwen, while they were both at a coffee shop visiting the Smithsonian on Earth. She wasn't very attracted to in the first place, but David's charms won her over. They married a year later on March 12, 2407. She was then offered a position on the USS Solstice with David as a civilian medical student to finish her studies.
Hobbies/Pastimes
Because of his interest in space since a child, David has always tried to study anything that he can within the scientific community. His field of speciality is Astronomy and Exobiology, although he considers himself a student of all sciences.
Political Ideology
After serving on the USS Solstice, he had applied for a position with Lotus Fleet as one of their distinguished science officers. Honor, integrity and excellence, which forms the core of Lotus Fleet values, are also one that he follows proudly.
Service Record
Starfleet Academy
David entered the Academy in 2400. He excelled in nearly all of his classes, particularly in science and astronomy since so much of his learning was done on his own. David often was reprimanded on multiple occasions for staying out passed curfew at the Academy's library going over the professors lectures in more detail. Dr. La Forge was the professor David looked up to most, as Dr. La Forge's science lectures were very passionate.
David graduated the Academy in 2404 as 3rd in his class, with honors in Astronomy and Exobiology.
Starfleet Career
USS Essess
Four months after graduation, Ensign Klein's first posting was to the Soyuz class light cruiser USS Essess under the command of Captain <>. David's knowledge of astronomy immediately put him in astrometrics and working directly under the senior science officer as his assistant.
USS Solstice
When the Solstice was assigned to study gaseous anomalies inside the Briar Patch, it was Ensign Klein that discovered the particle fountains inside. His findings and report gave him an early promotion to full Lieutenant in 2405. He was then assigned as head of astrometrics shortly after.
USS Solstice-A
Occupation
- Stellar Cartography: Ensign Klein was assigned to work in the astrometrics lab as soon as he was stationed on the Essess.
- His post included charting stars, planets, nebulae, and other stellar bodies. Ensign Klein spent many hours in the lab mapping and cataloging interstellar bodies which the ship encountered on its voyage.
- Chief Science Officer: After assignment to the USS Solstice, Lt. Klein was now part of the senior staff with the broad responsibility of coordinating the science department.
- He was responsible for taking sensor readings, keeping sufficient data, observing and theorizing explanations for strange or seemingly unexplainable circumstances and suppling his commanding officer with all reports, observations, and speculations that might affect the safety of the vessel.
- Executive Officer: With the destruction of the Solstice, nearly all of the crew were transfered to their new Luna class ship, USS Solstice-A in which, then Lt. Cmdr. Klein, was promoted Commander and First Officer. Duties included principal adviser to the captain, implementer of the captain's orders, preparation and issue of duty rosters, commander of the vessel in the event of the captain's absence, and work with the chief medical officer or counselor on crew evaluations.
Inventory
On ship, Cmdr. Klein is almost always seen with a PADD going over all operations for the science department.
Away missions he carries his scientific tricorder and type-2 phaser for defense.
