ANZCOM Fleet History
20th Century
The history of the ANZCOM Fleet origins can be found as the Australia & New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). Formed in 1914 as a war fighting force, fighting during the 20th century, during the dark days of the First Earth World War. Several minor conflicts of political origin, Korea, Vietnam. And then a trend away from wars, towards peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, East Timor, Bouganville, Somalia.
During the great war of the Eugenics, Australia and New Zealand were both conquered by the Augments, their populations suffering horrendous casualties. Many former soldiers and civilians went “underground”, mainly in the remote outskirts of Australia's Central Deserts, and the Wild mountains of New Zealand's South Island. Here, the ANZAC spirit lived on, as bands of non-Augmented humans rose up against their oppressors, and fought a Guerrilla war of resistance. Tragically this resulted in many cases of atrocities against humanity in these areas.
At the end of the Eugenic wars, the two nations of Australia and New Zealand banded together, using the vast resources and land to help provide aid to many countries that were utterly devastated by the war. Together with some Pacific Island nations an Allied Command was formed. Starting with 3 main bases in Melbourne, Auckland and Perth the ANZCOM fleet survived.
Only decades later, during the Nuclear Holocaust of Earth's Third and Final World War, the ANZAC Spirit lived on, again in those remote areas that were used during the Eugenic wars. Here, and in other places, away from the cities that were devastated by the nuclear holocaust, the Australian and New Zealand government survived, almost intact. It was this time that Australia got control of Papua New Guinea hoping to save the New Guinea people. New Zealand also took control of Fiji and Somoa for the same reasons.
2151 - Adapting to a Unified Planet
It was for this reason alone that Australia became the last signatory of the United Earth in 2151, a socio- and agora- phobic government that became stagnant and resistant to change. In that time the flame of the ANZAC spirit died right down.
After the “Awakening” as some call it, the ANZAC spirit truly flourished. A Flame for many dispirited humans. A drive entranced the populations of the two countries, aided by the influx of alien influences and assistance from many other cultures from earth itself.
ANZCOMs continued the traditions of the ANZACs into the final frontier in the 22rd century. With special permission from the newly formed Starfleet in late 2161, an ANZCOM squadron was formed, however due to the rush to join, this was later amended to an ANZCOM fleet. Originally patrolling the outer reaches of the SOL system in the Daedalus NX-100 and Comet class light cruisers, eventually extending the patrols out of the SOL system as far as Vulcan, Terra Nova, and the Romulan-federation neutral zone, in which time the Fleet received 3 new Saladin class vessels.
2403 - Cloak And Danger
These are dangerous times; the Alpha Quadrant is a volatile place just inches from the brink of war.
Admiral Reval Grax enlists the help of his Executive officer, Commander Daedelus to command an intelligence mission of vital importance that could save the quadrant from an all out war.
Daedelus takes into account the covert nature of the mission and the actions that may need to be taken. He proceeds to the New Zealand penal colony and only recruits two officers, Jonito West and Axedl Salbradon offering them a full pardon in exchange for their assistance.
Although Jonito West had been charged with insubordination and striking an Admiral, his experience was quite invaluable and given the nature of the mission ahead, his skills would come in handy. As for Axedl, he was charged with stealing a shuttle and smuggling weapons for a new Marquis faction, an undesirable trait in any officer but the contacts he could provide would prove useful.
Designated as the Australian & New Zealand Allied Command, the taskforce lead by Commander Daedelus headed for the neutral zone to rendezvous with one of Axedl’s informants on K7. The informant claimed to have information on the newly formed alliance between the Klingons, Gorn, Orion and Nausicaans. It seemed they were building an army to amass against the Federation and had plans to first retake the Hiromi Cluster, then all other systems they felt they had claim to.
Shortly after retrieving this information, Daedelus and his team were ambushed by a group of Orions. Unfortunately the informant was killed, but not before handing Jonito West a PADD that contained information verifying his claims. After repelling the Orion attack, the away team beamed to the USS Parkes and returned to Starfleet Command for further instructions.
2405 - A New Beginning
As a reward of gratitude for the outstanding efforts during the Klingon incursion on Korvat, Daedelus is promoted to the rank of Admiral and given command of the Australian & New Zealand Allied Command. Due to the fleet’s achievements in the previous years, recruitment attracted alot of respected and revered officers despite the calibre of recruits in which the fleet was formed.
No longer were officers concerned that the fleet was a place for criminals to redeem themselves but actually a fleet that could thrive regardless of an officer’s background. The founding ideals of Courage, Honour, Mateship and trust appealed to everyone.
With a renewed Klingon war on the horizon the fleet formed a council to address the impending threat and to consult on what course of action to take. With representatives from each department the council strived to work together in a diplomatic setting to create policies that could benefit the fleet and help it move forward.
It is also during this time that the fleet receives a new flagship the Prometheus Class, USS Icarus. Additionally the fleet is also awarded more ships to aid in the impending war consisting of Luna, Sovereign, Galaxy, Intrepid and Defiant class vessels.
2406 - A Diplomat Amongst Us
The Klingons invade the Arachnis sector, a long-standing buffer between the Empire and the Federation. Starfleet Command requests that Admiral Daedelus assist in the current conflict and assigns an additional ship to the Australian & New Zealand Allied Command.
The fleet is provided with the USS Cambridge commanded by Captain Enra Bahn. Although Enra was a scientist and not a soldier, he was well known in diplomatic circles and Starfleet thinks that he may be able to negotiate a peaceful outcome. Unfortunately negotiations fail and the quadrant descends into turmoil.
As the battle rages on, the USS Tempest and USS Endeavour are destroyed.
Not willing to sacrifice anymore of his men, Admiral Daedelus orders the fleet to fall back and rendezvous at Starbase Gallipoli. During the withdrawal the USS Icarus is heavily damaged in a skirmish with a Gorn patrol fleet but manages to proceed to the rendezvous point without further incident.
2408 - Conspiracy
Following year long talks in regards to fleet rules and procedures, questions are raised about the actions taken during the Arachnis Sector two years earlier. Certain members of the council conspire to strip Fleet Admiral Daedelus of his command.
During the investigation, Brian Mckenna discovers that the Science and Tactical department heads are behind the mutinous plot. Enlisting the help of tactical officers, Braves Reno and Byron Chace, Mckenna arrests the two council members and charges them with conspiracy.
Throughout the course of the trial it is found that the Head of Science, Trevak had created a terrorist cell to overthrow the Fleet Admiralty and take command of the fleet, behaviour more fitting to a Romulan than that of a respected Starfleet officer. Objecting to the charges brought forward, the Head of Tactical, Miles Matthews tries to defend his actions despite the amount of evidence against him and his co-conspirator.
After a lengthy four month trial, both officers are found guilty and expelled from the fleet.
As a result for the dedicated service to the fleet during this troubled time Braves Reno is promoted to the head of tactical with the rank of Admiral and Byron Chace is promoted as his new Executive Officer.
Enra Bahn is also promoted to the head of science following the expulsion of his former commanding officer; it is also during this time that Vice Admiral Soltark takes command of engineering following the retirement of the former department head.
With a complete restructure of Australian & New Zealand Allied Command, the fleet had gotten back to its roots operating under the ideals of Courage, Honour, Mateship and Trust. We had finally achieved peace, or had we?
2409 - Core Breach
Starbase Gallipoli is the victim of a cowardly terrorist attack orchestrated by members of the recently expelled admiralty.
Lead by Miles Matthews, the terrorist force managed to purge the fleet’s computer core before being intercepted by Jonito West and his security team. Despite the efforts of Daniel Wizamc the fleet’s data could not be retrieved.
Matthews is taken into custody and interrogated. During the interrogation, it is discovered that a subroutine was installed by Trevak prior to her dismissal from the fleet.
Given the magnitude of the information given, an arrest warrant is issued for the terrorist leader. The fleet is in a state of disbelief that a once revered and respected officer of the fleet could be capable of such a thing.
With the current war raging on with the Klingons, this incident could not have come at a worse time.
Seven months later, the Klingons begin their advance into Federation territory. With the Khitomer accords now broken Australian & New Zealand Allied Command is now involved in a war that could very well destroy the Alpha Quadrant.
