Welcome to the Second (October 2409) Engineering and Science Fair

Sponsored by the 12th Fleet’s engineering division, this event was designed to inspire, enlighten and encourage the participants and visitors alike. Below are the entries of the October 2409 Fair. The voting for this fair has been tallied and winners have been chosen! These are the award categories, and those who won:

  • Innovation Award, brings about significant change to society.
    • T'ruk Grax and JJJH Schmidt for their comprehensive design entry for the Valhalla space port
  • Best in Form and Function – most likely to be assimilated by the Borg
    • Draigo for his Unmaned Assult Vessels (UAVs)
  • Collectors Item – most likely to be acquired by a Ferengi
    • Billy Helms for his, quite popular, official 12th fleet T-shirt (available for purchase at the door)
  • Maximum destruction- worthy adversary for an Hirogen hunter
    • Logan's Phaser Rifle F.A.R.T. (Frequency Auto-Remodulating Trigger)
  • Peoples choice – best liked overall
    • iTod wins this award with the most horrid entry, one I bet his Mother helped him come up with (a Ferengi FEmale designing military apparel?! ) he must have the smallest Lobes if he entered this piece of carp... what was it again? oh, right:

Insultive and Explative Armor. hehe  ;)

Many thanks to those who submitted. Voting is now closed. For your viewing pleasure the entries will remain on display for your viewing pleasure below >>>

[1] USS Worker Bee

USS Worker Bee Captain Vazuras-Chief Engineer

“I am glad to introduce you to a ship that is all about Engineering and Research. We encounter many different types of ships and species, which maximize our student’s knowledge. Our students need to keep in mind this is a combat ship and will face danger! However, we have the best hands-on knowledge that Starfleet has to offer”.- Captain Vazuras-Chief Engineer

[2] 12th Fleet T-Shirt

12th Fleet Official t-shirt: Billy Helms

Proud of your membership with 12th Fleet but have no way to show it? Look no further than the only official 12th T-shirt! Other fleets will envy you and your friends will want one too! Need help recruiting? Get your own 12th fleet T-shirt! Wanna mix it up? Put your own special titles/ranks and even nicknames on the back for those "haters" to look at while you walk away from their inferior show of pride!

T'ruk Grax & JJJH Schmidt: - Valhalla Space station, a comprehensive design.

The combined efforts of T'ruk (structural design)and JJJH (technical and specification support) bring you this semi-comprehensive report on our fleet's base of opperations: Valhalla We hope you enjoy! (more details to come, i just wanted to get started on my entry!)

  • I Support: I love the look. If you could spice up the page and make it flow better and add some details and color to it. We could Feature the Article. Dash Vazuras

Logan: - Phaser Rifle F.A.R.T

Phaser Rifle Frequency Auto-Remodulating Trigger (F.A.R.T)

After the Borg Hugh was taken by then Capt. Picard’s crew and disconnected from the collective, engineers have done some extensive research on the implants – specifically their shield frequency modulator. Many problems were encountered with the Borg and their capability to adapt to the frequencies of the exiting phaser rifles… primarily the lack of capability for the phaser rifle to vary frequency as quickly.

This new trigger, conveniently located near where the thumb rests when security personnel hold the phaser rifle in a tactical/firing position, allows the shooter to easily press it - even simultaneously when firing the rifle. When pressed, the phaser charge is drained at twice the normal energy drain rate, but reads the feedback of the phaser beam when it’s returned from a Borg shield and compensates to a different frequency range with enough deviance from the last frequency to penetrate the Borg shield.

Although this trigger provides only ½ the firing/combat time for the shooter, it allows longer and more effective engagement against the Borg.

  • I Support: I love this Idea. Interesting. Flesh this out a little. Dash Vazuras

Draigo: - UAV (unmanned assault vessel)

Take a few ships about half the size of the defiant class and set them up to be completely remote controlled. Create some large ships about half the size of a borg cube with docking bays for about 300 vessels, quarters for 400 ppl and 6 large rooms with 50 work stations with a display screen that surounds the station in a complete sphere that has to open to enter. For full control of a uav the "CARRIER" can sit safely away from the battle send the uav's in (uav has warp drive that allows it to warp into battlezones so the carrier can stay safely far away from the battle). The Carrier would have to have an EXTENSIVE sensor array to know the exact location of each ship in the fight to be relayed to the command pits for the uav's as well as heavy transmitters to control the uavs with.

Onyx: - EEH (Emergency Engineering Hologram)

EEH's, there is EMH's and ECH's, but no Emergency Engineering Holograms. Emergency Engineering Holograms would remain in engineering or on the bridge and interface with the computer doing simple tasks that previously had to be done by an engineer. This frees up [non-photonic] personelle to go and directly access and repair damaged systems. The current EEH can also access the computer core to discover if the problem at hand has arisen before, and provides instructions on how the problem was solved before. The EEH can enter areas that have radiation contamination that would be harmful to non-photonic crew members, they could easily handle the problem without the risk to anyone's life. Plans for future development include a subroutine that designs posible solutions to new problems by immitating human creativity.

  • I Oppose: Ships can constantly be upgraded and the hologram could mess things up. Plus why don't we just have them do all of our jobs...so much for Job Security! This seems OP in my eyes. Dash Vazuras

Darren Wright: - Emergency Measure Capsules

An attachable capsule that contains the most incredible lubricant, when faced with an advancing Borg or a host of them preferable, we simple unclip the capsule from our belts and hit it hard on the floor, it then creates an incredibly slidy surface that anything even heavy borg can not walk over.

Also i have another capsule which has an effect on the gravity plating, forcing what evers coming at you to loose Gravity, and be forced upwards, or to propell you upwards to get away from something on the ground.

And also a Sticky capsule, basically cementing things that touch the surface area where it hits. Thus allowing for escape.

Also a shadow capsule, creating sensor ghosts in all directions of life signs etc, also an escape measure in times of pure danger.

  • I Oppose: Gravity Plating...it's a gravity generator on ships. Plus as an engineer in real life the libricant could be a safety issue and hard to clean up. Dash Vazuras

iTod: - Insultive and Explicative Armour

In late 2405, Federation Psyk-Ops formed a group known as Section 51 and based them in System 51 (Location Top Secret).

Their aim was to come up with ways to help defend Federation Starships from any future Borg attacks.

The first project to be tested was 'Insultative Armour'. Once armed, this defense system would open all known hailing frequencies and broadcast a range of insults. For instance - "Come back when you've had some target practice!". Results against Borg targets were somewhat mixed, but when used against Klingon targets in The Neutral Zone, they were way beyond expectation. "I've seen Ferengi schoolgirls shoot better" was particularly effective at luring incensed Klingons into an ambush.

Encouraged by this initial success, Section 51 is now working the development of 'Explicative Armour'. This will be truly hard-core, cutting-edge science - this time directly focused on potential Klingon threats.
